Travel Gear for Minimalist Filmmakers

Travel Gear for Minimalist Filmmakers

I’m always asked “what gear do you bring when shooting travel films?” so I decided to give the full run-through before my trip to California.

I’m heading out on a huge trip next month and I’m trying so hard to pack my gear efficiently. Thanks for this video!

What to bring…? Two XXL Pelican cases, one bag with light, a bag with cage and monitor… Ou, yeah, drone. And a backpack with two t-shirts, flip-flops and pair of sneakers πŸ˜€πŸ‘Œ

Only just started listening to podcasts and your podcast about Paris has me hooked. My half hour commute went in a flash.

Just a heads up I vaguely remember you using the iPhone wireless charger in a video, having my credit card between my phone and the charger ruined the magnetic strip

  7. Tim Bryan on June 21, 2018 at 12:31 am

Have you looked into getting some kind of cold shoe bracket to mount the mic next to the camera? I think being able to hold the gimble upside down would make for some pretty cool shots.

  8. DJLsb Vapes on June 21, 2018 at 12:31 am

This was great, when comes down to pack camera gear we think alike πŸ˜‰

  9. Jon Reyes on June 21, 2018 at 12:34 am

Got a lot of the same gear. All about packing it all into a backpack!

  13. I'm Jack's Nipples on June 21, 2018 at 12:36 am

"you have to have a joby for the stuff i’m filming" nah, you have to have a tripod of any kind.

  14. Al Lord on June 21, 2018 at 12:36 am

You can use the screen optional on Zhiyun crane 2 such as rapture and ISO shutter speed by plunging the canon wire to the sony camera, it is working well on my sony a7 R iii

  15. Nate B on June 21, 2018 at 12:38 am

  17. Shelter Bored on June 21, 2018 at 12:42 am

I’ve had good luck with eagle creek suitcases because their spinner rolling wheels are bomber all terrain type wheels. You can abuse them and they just keep working. Would love to see you pack all this to see how bulky it is. Great video

  18. Linus Boyer on June 21, 2018 at 12:42 am

Test the DoucheBag! They have great quality and also look minimal!

  19. Ronny Tam on June 21, 2018 at 12:45 am

That manfrotto base plate is a gamechanger

  20. Igor Salkov on June 21, 2018 at 12:46 am

Man, actually you can use "Record" button on your gimbal, u just need to attach the cable, and u’ll have camera charging from gimbal as well

  21. Robbie Rose on June 21, 2018 at 12:46 am

Great Video! It’s always refreshing when people go into detail about what they use and why. I usually carry a lot more than that, but I may be cutting down a bit for my next trip. Thanks again!

  26. Alexander Bullen-Genis on June 21, 2018 at 12:52 am

I’ve been following your content for a while now. Came back to Youtube recently, was seeing little educational/inspiring recommended stuff, but your minimalist lifestyle and filmmaking inspiration, a long with some others has me super excited for the future of content creation on Youtube and younger audiences. Love the work, thank you for letting us know what you do and use for your films, and keep creating. ✊

  27. Josiah Diaz on June 21, 2018 at 12:55 am

  31. Samuel James on June 21, 2018 at 12:59 am

  34. Dirt Hurt on June 21, 2018 at 1:01 am

    hey Kraig, RE: back pain,
try working some basic yoga into your life with some regularity. ive had serious back pain and do a lot of backpacking which definitely doesn’t help. i started doing yoga a couple times a week or before i go out with a heavy bag or bike trip and it has literally changed my life. 5/10 would recommend! check out Yoga With Tim here on YT for easy to follow simple videos with a chill dude πŸ€™πŸ½

charging protip: your macbook also makes a great 3+ usb charging station. plug laptop in then you have 3 more places to plug devices in to charge them overnight, needing less charging bricks

  41. Mister B on June 21, 2018 at 1:08 am

  44. mazzda con on June 21, 2018 at 1:14 am

As a very experienced traveller I keep my Passport and cards and some cash in a money belt under my pants, so if there is a bag snatch all is not lost.

  45. Unframed Minds on June 21, 2018 at 1:15 am

Very useful. Thank you for posting this.

  46. Sreten Spasojević on June 21, 2018 at 1:17 am

Hi Craig, nice video as allways. U said that U can’t use record option on Crane 2? Also have it and A7s2 and with new firmware update I’m possible to change ISO,shutter and aperture + record button.

  47. JLVentures on June 21, 2018 at 1:18 am

    Amazonbasics luggage ftw.

  48. Karen Jane Foote on June 21, 2018 at 1:20 am

Since you don’t use ND filters, for your cinematic shots do you control exposure with just aperture or do you change shutter speed as well? Love all your videos, keep it up!

  49. Max Bayuk on June 21, 2018 at 1:20 am

Down for the clothing/mentality video (travel & non)!
